What this means
Kiwi Indians are now a major economic force in New Zealand. In the year to March 2025, the community contributed $37.3 billion to national GDP, equal to 8.6% of the New Zealand economy, and supported 220,910 full-time equivalent jobs. Indian businesses are the powerhouse of this contribution, accounting for just under three-quarters of the total through the production of goods and services. Kiwi Indian households add a further quarter through spending, while Indian visitors and international students also make an important and growing contribution.

A young, qualified workforce
46% of Kiwi Indians are aged 25 to 44, younger than the national average. They are well-educated, with nearly half holding university qualifications.

Kiwi Indian median personal incomes rose 47% between 2018 and 2023, compared with 31% across the total population.

The Waitakere Indian Association commissioned Infometrics to measure the economic contribution of Indians living in New Zealand, known in this report as Kiwi Indians.
